Melbourne sits in the middle of Florida's Space Coast, with 72 miles of Brevard County beaches on one side and the St. Johns River marshes on the other. Canaveral National Seashore is 45 minutes north, Sebastian Inlet 30 minutes south, and Orlando an hour inland. Launches from Kennedy Space Center are visible from the beach, which is a genuinely good reason to own a van you can sleep in.
What a camper van for sale in Melbourne, FL has to handle is heat, humidity and salt air, all of them year-round. The Vansmith builds Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit camper vans in Boulder, Colorado, and delivers them across the Space Coast. Conversion packages start at $46,950, complete vans with the chassis included start at $115,950, and pre-built Bivy models run from $119,700 to $192,570. For the statewide picture, see
camper vans in Florida.
Boards, chairs, umbrellas and coolers live in the gear garage, with roof racks for longer boards.
Bikes travel in the gear garage or on a rear or roof rack depending on layout.
Rods, tackle and waders store along the side walls or in the gear garage, which can be rinsed out after a trip.
A ventilated spot near the door, with the roof fan running, dries things far faster than packing them away damp.
A 12V compressor fridge handles days of food without ice, which matters more in Florida heat than almost anywhere.
A raised bed creates the single most useful storage area in the van, accessible from inside and through the rear doors.
| Technical Specification | Melbourne Consideration | What to Evaluate | What We Build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air conditioning | Florida heat and humidity | Cooling capacity and electrical demand | 12V air conditioning sized to the battery bank |
| Ventilation | Humid coastal climate | Air circulation and moisture management | Powered roof fan with variable speed and direction |
| Insulation | Heat management | Thermal performance on all six sides | Full insulation; Havelock wool in pre-built Bivy models |
| House battery | Higher electrical demand | Actual usable capacity, not nominal | Lithium bank sized around overnight cooling |
| Solar | Off-grid Florida travel | Installed capacity against expected use | Roof array sized to layout, strong most of the year |
| Alternator charging | Long-distance driving | Charging capability while you drive | DC-DC charger fitted on every build |
| Shore power | Campgrounds and home use | Charging and electrical support | Onboard charger and shore connection on every build |
| Refrigeration | Warm-weather travel | Capacity and power draw | 12V compressor fridge running on battery power |
| Water system | Extended trips | Fresh and gray capacity | Tanks sized to your realistic trip length |
| Vehicle height | Garages and parking | Overall clearance | Roughly 9 to 10 ft in high roof form; measure before ordering |
| Vehicle length | Coastal and urban driving | Parking and maneuverability | Approx. 19.5 ft short wheelbase or 22.5 ft extended |
| Tires | Highway and recreational use | Type, condition and age | Chosen around your routes; check age as well as tread in Florida sun |
| Storage | Beach and outdoor equipment | Interior and rear storage volume | Gear garage under a raised bed, cabinets and roof racks |
| Corrosion protection | Constant salt-air exposure | Exterior sealing and underbody care | Properly sealed penetrations, plus a rinsing routine we cover at handover |
Exact figures for payload, ground clearance, tire sizing and vehicle dimensions depend on the chassis, trim and drivetrain you choose. We confirm each against your build during the design call.
Nine tailored layouts across the two-person DUO Series and the four-person FAMILY Series, plus three pre-built Bivy trims. Browse all tailored models .
A Class B is a camper built on a van chassis rather than a truck frame. It parks in a standard beach lot, fits most home garages, and drives like a tall van. Browse our Class B RVs for sale .
Current stock, including inspected used vans, is listed on our camper vans for sale page.
Every layout is available as a camper van for sale in Melbourne, built to order in Boulder. Use our van designer or call (303) 414-6834 for a fixed, itemized quote.
Summer highs sit in the low 90s with humidity that pushes the heat index considerably higher, and the humid season runs long. A dark van parked in full sun gets far hotter than the outside air.
Afternoon storms are near-daily through the wet season, and Florida has the highest lightning density in the country. Sealed roof penetrations and a gear garage for wet equipment handle the practical side.
This is the one that costs Space Coast owners money if ignored. Salt air works on the underbody, fasteners, brake components and any exposed metal, and it does so whether the van is driven or parked. Living within a few miles of the ocean means near-constant exposure.
Surfboards, paddleboards, fishing gear and wetsuits all need somewhere that is not the bed. A gear garage plus an exterior shower keeps sand and salt out of the living space.
The beaches are minutes away, Orlando an hour inland, and both the Gulf coast and the Keys reachable within a day. Launch viewing from Playalinda or Jetty Park is an easy overnight trip in a self-contained van.
Insulation first, ventilation second, cooling third. Insulation slows heat gain, a powered roof fan pulls hot air out through the ceiling where it collects, and insulated window covers keep sun off the glass. Air conditioning then has far less work to do, which directly extends battery runtime. See our A/C installation page and guide on keeping an RV cool in summer .
In a humid climate, standing moisture behind panels is the long-term risk. Airflow paths behind cabinets, sealed surfaces and a fan that runs while you sleep are what prevent mildew.
Air conditioning is the largest single draw in any van. We size the lithium bank around overnight cooling, charged by solar, DC-DC alternator charging and shore power. Read our 12V air conditioning guide .
Fresh and gray tanks sized to trip length, plus a 12V compressor fridge that keeps food cold for days without ice.
A gear garage beneath a raised bed, roof racks for boards, and washable surfaces throughout.
A high-roof van stands roughly 9 to 10 feet tall and a short-wheelbase build runs about 19.5 feet. Measure your garage door opening, and check community rules if you live under an HOA.
Two-person layout on a Sprinter 144 or Transit 148, about 19.5 feet, with a convertible VersaBed, full galley and gear storage. From $46,950 as a conversion.
The same short footprint with a bench shower inside. From $53,950 as a conversion.
Extended platform around 22.5 feet, with more storage and a flexible sleeping system.
The most complete two-person layout, with a full interior bathroom and extended power. From $63,950 as a conversion.
Four seatbelts and four berths on the short wheelbase. From $51,950 as a conversion.
Extended family layout with a bench shower and extra storage. From $61,950 as a conversion.
Full interior shower and full power systems for longer trips without hookups. From $68,950 as a conversion.
Pre-built on a Sprinter 144 AWD with a pop-top and four-season Havelock wool insulation, ready in 8 to 10 weeks. Classic from $119,700, Plus from $145,845, Deluxe from $192,570 with air conditioning fitted, which makes the Deluxe the most directly relevant trim for Florida. See our Bivy comparison .
For most Space Coast buyers the decision is between a short-wheelbase van that parks easily at the beach and an extended layout with a full interior shower and larger tanks for Keys and Gulf trips. If your trips are mostly local and overnight, the short van wins. If you spend a week at a time away, the extra capacity is worth the length.
Twenty minutes north, with beach access, surf and launch viewing from several points along the shore.
About 45 minutes north, one of the longest undeveloped stretches of Atlantic coast in Florida. Access sometimes closes around launches, so check before you go.
Thirty minutes south, with a state park, good fishing and some of the most consistent surf in Florida.
An hour inland, with the freshwater springs north of the city holding about 72 degrees year-round. See our Orlando page .
About two and a half hours north.
A long day south, then the Overseas Highway. Keys campgrounds book out months ahead and many set vehicle length limits, so reserve early and check the limit against your build. See our Miami page .
Two to three hours west across the state. See our Tampa page .
Run the roof fan while cooking and sleeping, and open the van up when you get home rather than closing it and walking away.
An exterior shower and washable flooring turn this into a five-minute job rather than an afternoon.
Rinse the underbody with fresh water regularly, not just after beach trips, because living near the coast means constant exposure. Check and maintain exterior seals, and inspect fasteners and brake components more often than an inland owner would.
Keep condenser and intake areas clear, and check that airflow paths have not been blocked by stored gear.
Roof penetrations are where water gets in. Check fans, vents and solar mounts at least annually, and after any major storm.
Park away from trees during hurricane season, keep the battery bank charged, close vents against driving rain, and keep the fuel tank topped up so the van is ready as an early-evacuation vehicle. Hurricane season runs June through November, and a van is not shelter in a storm.
Conversion pricing covers the build only. Complete-van pricing from $115,950 includes the chassis, and we can source the vehicle for you.

For most Melbourne buyers staying on paved roads, the Transit offers better value and easier service across Florida. The Sprinter holds its value better and its diesel range suits longer trips. Both take the same layouts and systems. Read our Sprinter vs. Transit guide .
Short, around 19.5 feet, parks easily at the beach and fits most garages. Extended, around 22.5 feet, adds a full interior shower, larger tanks and more storage for Keys and Gulf trips.
The DUO Series sleeps two. The FAMILY Series provides four seatbelts and four berths, which is what decides family suitability rather than floor space.
