Long Wheelbase FAQ

Why go with a long wheelbase van?

If space is your thing—if you want to walk around, stretch out, have a real bed, or even a proper bathroom—a long wheelbase van is where it’s at. Vans like the Sprinter 170 or the Ford Transit Extended give you room to breathe. They’re perfect if you’re traveling with a partner, kids, or just a whole lot of gear. It’s not just about more space—it’s about living comfortably, especially if you’re doing this full-time or heading out on longer trips.

What kind of layouts are available?

We’ve got a few great ones. For couples, there’s the DUO XL and DUO XLS—super comfy setups with big beds, full kitchens, and the option for a full shower and toilet. If you’re traveling with a family or want more flexibility, the FAMILY XL and FAMILY XLS come with modular seating and sleeping areas that fit up to five people. You can cook, relax, even work on the road—it’s all designed to make van life feel easy and natural.

Which vans do these builds work with?

We mostly work with the Mercedes Sprinter 170 (standard and extended) and the Ford Transit High Roof Extended. These longer vans give us the space to build everything in without compromise. And whether you're going rear-wheel, all-wheel, or 4x4—we’ve got you covered.

Can I get a real bathroom in there?

Yes, and it’s actually really nice. Our XLS builds include a fully enclosed shower and toilet, so you’re not stuck hunting for campground facilities. If you want to keep things simple, we also offer more flexible options like portable setups or just an outdoor shower.

Will I have enough power for everything?

Definitely. Every build includes a lithium battery system with enough juice to power lights, devices, your fridge—even a heater. You also get solar-ready wiring, so staying off-grid for days (or weeks) is totally doable. You won’t feel like you’re roughing it.

What about heating and insulation?

We don’t mess around here. You get full insulation, high-efficiency fans, and a diesel heater to keep things cozy when it gets cold. If you go for an XLS build, you get 4-season insulation standard—so mountain winters or desert heat, you're covered.

Is there enough storage space?

Tons. You’ll find upper cabinets, deep drawers, a big garage under the bed, and space for all the essentials (and non-essentials). Want roof racks or extra gear storage? We can make that happen too. It’s all about keeping things neat without losing space.

Do I get a real kitchen?

Oh yeah. You’ll have a proper fridge, a deep stainless sink, solid countertops, and the option for an induction cooktop. You won’t miss your home kitchen—we promise. Whether it’s morning coffee or full-on dinner, you can do it all.

Can I personalize it?

Absolutely. These aren’t cookie-cutter builds. Want more power? Fancy upholstery? Special gear storage? Done. We design around your life, not the other way around.

How long does it take to build one?

Usually, we’re booked out a few months in advance. Once we start your build, it takes around two to three months depending on what you’re adding. It’s not fast, but we make sure every detail is done right.

Is a long wheelbase van right for me?

If you’re looking for maximum comfort and space—and don’t mind driving something a little longer—then yes. It’s great for full-time vanlifers, adventurous families, or anyone who wants to take the comforts of home on the road. Think of it as your personal cabin on wheels.

Can I bring pets or extra toys?

Yes to both. We've built long wheelbase vans with pet-friendly features like slide-out kennels, water bowls, and even dedicated gear storage for bikes, surfboards, skis—you name it. The under-bed “garage” is perfect for storing the big stuff, and we can help you get creative with add-ons that match your lifestyle.

Will it feel too big if I’m traveling solo?

Not at all. In fact, many solo vanlifers prefer long wheelbase vans because they can have a dedicated work zone, a cozy sleeping setup, and still move around freely without constantly reconfiguring things. It gives you room to breathe—and on those days when the weather’s bad or you just want to stretch out, that space really matters.
