Every build we make is designed to sleep in, comfortably. Our Bivy and Duo vans sleep two on a full king or queen bed, while our Family builds add bunks and a kids hammock to sleep three or four. New custom builds are listed first below, with ready-to-go used vans at the bottom.

At The Vansmith, the bed is where it all starts. A real, comfortable place to sleep is the difference between a van you tolerate for a weekend and one you can live in for months. Every build we make is a sleeper van, hand-built in custom Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit vans.
Based in Boulder, Colorado, we have been building custom conversions since 2016. As skiers, bikers, hikers, and climbers ourselves, we know that a good night of sleep is what makes the next adventure possible.
How our sleeper vans sleep
The right sleeping setup depends on who is coming along:
- King and queen beds: a full-size bed across the back of the van, raised over a roomy gear garage. Standard on our Bivy and Duo couples builds.
- VersaBed flexible bed: our bed system that gives you a comfortable, full-size sleep surface designed around your layout.
- Bunk beds and kids hammock: Family builds add bunks and a hammock to sleep three or four without crowding the living space.
- Convertible seating: dinettes and benches that turn into an extra bed for the occasional guest.
Whatever the configuration, the goal is the same: a comfortable place to sleep night after night. We design the layout around how many you travel with.

Used and consignment vans: a rotating selection of pre-owned sleeper vans, inspected and ready to drive away today, usually at a lower price than a new build. You will find these at the bottom of the listings.

What is a sleeper van?
A sleeper van is a camper van built with a real, dedicated bed you can use every night. Every Vansmith is a sleeper van: each build has a comfortable, full-size sleeping area designed for repeatable, restful sleep, not just a fold-out couch.
How many people can a sleeper van sleep?
It depends on the model. Our Bivy and Duo builds sleep two on a king or queen bed, and our Family builds sleep three to four with bunk beds and a kids hammock. Duo builds can also add a bunk for occasional extra sleeping.
Do all Vansmith vans have a bed?
Yes. Every Vansmith build is a sleeper van with a comfortable, full-size bed built in, from couples builds to family layouts. Sleeping comfortably on board is the whole point.
What size beds do they have?
Most builds feature a full king or queen bed across the rear, raised over a large gear garage. Family builds pair a queen with bunk beds and a kids hammock for the little ones.
What is the VersaBed?
The VersaBed is our signature sliding bed system. It floats above the rear gear garage as a near-queen bed and extends to a near-king when you want more room, so you get full-size comfort without losing storage or daytime living space. Pull it in by day to open up the cabin, slide it out at night.
What bed and sleeping options can I choose from?
Quite a few. We offer a fixed king or queen bed, the extendable VersaBed sliding system, bunk beds with a kids hammock for families, and convertible dinettes and benches that turn into an extra bed. Most layouts also raise the bed to create a large gear garage underneath.
Can a sleeper van sleep a whole family?
Yes. Our Family builds are made for it, with a queen bed plus bunk beds and a kids hammock to sleep three or four comfortably, without giving up living or storage space.
Can I customize the sleeping layout?
Yes. Every van is built to order, so you choose the setup that fits how you travel: a fixed bed, the VersaBed, bunks, or convertible seating, plus the bed height and the size of the garage underneath. Tell us how many you need to sleep and we design the layout around it.
Are the beds permanent or convertible?
Both options exist. Many builds have a comfortable fixed bed, while the VersaBed slides and extends and our dinettes convert, so you can flex between extra sleeping and more daytime living space.
Is there storage under the bed?
Yes. Most layouts raise the bed to create a large rear garage underneath, perfect for bikes, skis, totes, and bulky gear, so your sleeping space doubles as serious storage.

Should I buy a new or used sleeper van?
