What we love about this van
We built this van in 2021, so we are not guessing about what is behind the walls. Here is what stands out to us now that it is back with us.
- A new engine with warranty left on it. A Mercedes dealership installed it at 75,000 miles in May 2026, and the 3 year / 36,000 mile coverage transfers to you. The odometer reads 82,000 miles, so the engine itself has covered only about 7,000.
- It is one of ours. We know the wiring, the framing and the joinery because we did them. That is not something we can say about a used van that came to us from somewhere else.
- A 144 inch van that still gets off the pavement. It runs a lift kit, upgraded suspension and all-terrain tires, plus wheel-arch flares and a roof ladder, so it handles rough forest roads and still fits a normal parking spot.
- 4.8 kWh of lithium and a monitor on the wall. There is 400Ah of LiFePO4, 180W of rooftop solar, an inverter, shore power and DC-DC charging. Battery, water and solar all read at a glance, and it holds up for days without hookups.
- A gear garage under a fixed bed. The bed stays made, so there is nothing to pull apart at the end of the day. L-track rails in the floor let bikes, skis and boards tie down properly.
- The details you notice on a long trip. You get swiveling captain's chairs, a cedar ceiling over walnut butcher block counters, six added windows with blackout covers, dimming lights, a side awning, an outdoor shower and a cell booster for when the signal drops.

This is a 2020 Sprinter 2500 4x4 that we converted here in Boulder in 2021, coming back to us from its original owners. It is a lifted, all-season, 144 inch high-roof build with a fixed rear bed, a gear garage underneath, and a galley finished in Thermo Walnut cabinetry, walnut butcher block counters and a cedar ceiling.
The mechanical story is the headline. A new engine was installed at a Mercedes dealership in May 2026 at 75,000 miles, and it carries a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty that transfers to the next owner. A new diesel particulate filter system and a new turbocharger went in at the same dealership in August 2025. The odometer reads 82,000 miles, so the engine itself has covered roughly 7,000.
Off the pavement it runs a lift kit, upgraded suspension and all-terrain tires, which is what makes a 144 Sprinter genuinely useful on rough forest roads. Power comes from a 400Ah (4.8 kWh) LiFePO4 bank with 180W of rooftop solar, an inverter, shore power and DC-DC charging, so it holds up off grid for days at a time. Seats 4, sleeps 2.
