Adventure-Ready from Coast to Countryside

Built for Florida’s Two Biggest Vanlife Challenges: Heat and the Long Haul

Florida Heat Management — The Real Spec

ws 2–3W and moves 900 CFM of air through the van. Paired with spray foam insulation (which slows interior heat spike on both sides, not just in winter), the interior temperature on a Florida summer afternoon is meaningfully lower than an uninsulated build. Lighter color options reduce solar heat absorption further.

Built for 4-Month Gulf Coast Winters

The DUO XLS and FAMILY XLS are the snowbird builds — 22-foot interior with dedicated sleeping, cooking, and storage for two adults. Water tank capacity supports multiple days between fills. Interior layout functions as a mobile second home from Pensacola to Naples, November through April.

Renewable Baltic Birch Throughout

Sustainably sourced cabinetry with sealed edges — built to handle Florida’s year-round humidity, salt air near the coast, and the moisture that accumulates in any enclosed space during a Florida summer.

Florida State Park Campsite Compatibility

All DUO Series models at 19 feet fit Florida State Park standard campsites. DUO XL and XLS at 22 feet fit at most sites — verify your preferred park’s maximum length before booking. Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys: the DUO fits the loop sites.

Salt-Air Hardware for Coastal Florida

Exterior fittings use marine-grade and stainless hardware. Sealed cabinetry edges and non-porous interior surfaces resist the salt-air corrosion that coastal Florida accelerates on cheaper van conversions.

Financing for a Second-Home Purchase

Florida’s snowbird buyers often approach a DUO XLS or FAMILY XLS as a $70k–$120k second home investment, not a vehicle purchase. We work with specialist RV financing partners who understand this use case.

Florida vanlife FAQs

How does the van handle Florida's salt air near the coast?
Salt-air corrosion is a real concern for any vehicle kept near Florida's coast. Vansmith uses marine-grade and stainless hardware on exterior fittings, sealed cabinetry edges, and non-porous interior surfaces that resist the moisture and salt that accelerate deterioration on cheaper builds. If you're planning extended time on the Keys, the Gulf barrier islands, or anywhere between Sarasota and Naples, this hardware spec matters.
Can I run A/C from the van's battery while parked at the beach?
A rooftop A/C unit draws 400-600W continuously - more than the 200Ah lithium battery and 400W solar can sustain indefinitely. The honest answer: the solar + battery system handles ventilation (MaxxAir fan at 2-3W), a 12V compressor fridge, and lighting without shore power. For sustained A/C in Florida summer heat, a 30-amp hookup at a campsite is the practical solution - which most Florida State Park sites offer. We can also discuss diesel-powered cooling options as an add-on for buyers who specifically need off-grid A/C.
Do your vans fit into Florida State Park campsites?
Yes. All DUO Series models are 19 feet - they fit Florida State Park standard campsites (mostly 20-40 feet). DUO XL and FAMILY XL at 22 feet fit at most sites; verify your preferred park's maximum length when booking. For the Florida Keys: Bahia Honda State Park's loop sites accommodate 19-foot builds comfortably. Bahia Honda fills 6+ months in advance for prime season dates - book early.
Can I use the van as my primary vehicle in Florida year-round, including hurricane season?
Yes. Vansmith builds on standard Sprinter and Transit platforms registered and insured as vehicles - they drive exactly like any full-size van. During hurricane season (June-November), Florida residents with campervans follow the same evacuation protocols as any other vehicle - the van gives you flexibility to move quickly if needed rather than waiting on hotel availability. For snowbird buyers using the van November-April only: the van stores normally at your Florida address or in covered storage during the off-season.

Built for the Florida Way of Life

Every Vansmith build is engineered for Florida's two most demanding use cases: the weekend warrior chasing Canaveral's beaches or Ocala's springs who needs a van that won't become an oven by noon, and the snowbird using their van as a mobile second home along the Gulf Coast from November through April. Both buyers have specific needs that a generic campervan doesn't address — we build for both.

  • MaxxAir Ventilation + Spray Foam Insulation: The MaxxAir fan moves 900 CFM with a 2–3W draw. Spray foam insulation slows the interior heat spike on both sides — not just for cold nights, but for Florida summer afternoons when an uninsulated van reaches 140°F interior. Lighter color options reduce solar absorption further.
  • Gulf Coast Snowbird Layout: The DUO XLS and FAMILY XLS are built for two adults living full-time. Dedicated sleeping, full kitchen, interior shower, storage for 4-month trips, and water capacity for multiple days between fills — from Pensacola to Naples without compromising on comfort.
  • Florida State Park Fit — Confirmed: All DUO Series models at 19 ft fit Florida State Park standard campsites. DUO XL and XLS at 22 ft fit at most sites. Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys: DUO fits the loop sites. Book 6+ months in advance — these sites fill out early every season.
  • Salt-Resistant Coastal Hardware: Marine-grade and stainless exterior fittings resist the salt-air corrosion that coastal Florida accelerates. Sealed cabinetry edges and non-porous surfaces handle the humidity that accumulates in any enclosed space during a Florida summer.
  • RV Financing for Second-Home Buyers: We work with specialist RV financing partners. For snowbird buyers approaching this as a $70k–$120k second-home investment, ask about loan structures designed for seasonal use.

Explore Florida in a Vansmith

Our favorite customer routes and destinations include:

  • Bahia Honda State Park, Florida Keys: TThe best campsite in the Keys — and the hardest to book. The DUO Series at 19 feet fits the loop sites. Book 6+ months in advance. John Pennekamp, just north on Key Largo, is day-use only — don’t plan to overnight there. Bahia Honda is the one.
  • EGulf Coast snowbird route (Pensacola to Naples): The standard November–April run. Grayton Beach State Park near Destin, Fort Pickens in the Panhandle, Cayo Costa near Fort Myers (ferry access — van stays on the mainland), and Collier-Seminole south of Naples. Plan state park bookings 3–6 months out for prime winter dates.
  • Canaveral National Seashore (Space Coast): 57,000 acres of undeveloped barrier island. Primitive camping at Klondike Beach — no hookups, first-come for walk-in sites. A good overnight from Orlando (1 hr) or Jacksonville (2 hrs). The solar system handles overnight no-hookup stays comfortably
  • Ocala National Forest springs circuit: Alexander Springs, Juniper Springs, Salt Springs — all with full campgrounds and hookups. An easy drive from Orlando, Tampa, or Gainesville. Water temp stays at 68°F year-round. Sites accommodate 22-foot builds.
  • Big Cypress National Preserve (near Everglades): Dispersed off-road camping on designated trails — no hookups, no reservations, no crowds. One of the few places in Florida where you can camp without a state park site. A 19-foot DUO navigates the access roads comfortably.

We’ve built vans that have experienced all of these and many more.
